Going Green Results in Making A Car Donation To Charity
Who’d have thought a night at the movies would lead to making a car donation to the National Veterans Services Fund (NVSF), a very special veteran’s charity! My husband Ted and I love movies and created a sort of movie club with our friends. Although it’s all for fun and entertainment, there have been times that we’ve watched a film or documentary that has transformed us.
An Inconvenient Truth was one of those movies. After seeing it, we all pledged to do what we could to do our part and help stop global warming. For Ted and me, "going green" and finding ways to conserve energy soon became our obsession.
Going green literally started at home. Our kids were grown and we’d been empty nesters for about three years. One morning, Ted just looked up from reading his paper and said, “Marcy, why on earth are we still living in such a big house? Let’s start looking for something smaller.” We decided that we would start looking for a new, more energy efficient home right away.
A few months later, we’d settled into our greener home. Carl, an old army buddy of Ted’s, was also part of our "green" movie club. Carl prompted us to do even more. He’d recently bought a new hybrid vehicle so he was ribbing Ted about our large SUV, which he’d dubbed, "The Guzzler". Like many families, we’d bought a smaller economy car, a hybrid, but had hung on to the SUV.
We realized that, like our home, we were keeping the SUV for sentimental reasons. Sure, we’d had some fun family outings in it, but providing a better future for our grandchildren had now become more important than a trunk full of memories.
However, selling the vehicle posed an interesting catch-22 to our green plans. How could we get rid of our large SUV and still feel like we’d done something worthwhile? Was it really practical to expect that whoever bought it would use it as little as we had?
It was Ted’s friend Carl who came up with a solution. It turned out that when Carl bought his new car, he’d made a car donation on behalf of the National Veterans Services Fund with his old vehicle. The NVSF is a non-profit organization that helps veterans and their families. Making a car donation on behalf of the National Veterans Services Fund was definitely something we could feel good about.
We were even happier when we found out how simple and straightforward the whole car donation process was. Ted called the toll free number for Easy Donate a Car (800-405-5236) and before I knew it, their helpful representative was making a veteran car donation on our behalf.
We were so pleased with how effortless it was to donate a car to charity. We now tell all our friends that making a car donation was simply one of the easiest and most important steps we’ve taken to going green.
We encourage everyone to get involved and make a car donation through Easy Donate a Car on behalf of the National Veterans Services Fund.
