A Car-a-holic Goes Cold Turkey With His Car Donation

Hello, my name is Ron, and I am a self confessed car-a-holic.

OK, maybe I am not technically addicted to cars as that first sentence may have implied, but it sure seemed that way when I looked out my back window.

Sitting there, tucked away in a field behind my neatly manicured backyard, sat my old used and sadly ignored, Firebird. The one I had always meant to tinker with but never seemed to get around to it.

Alas, as my family grew along with my responsibilities, I just never seemed to have the time to work on the ‘ole girl. And, with each passing day, the likelihood of me ever finding the time to work on my “project car” seemed to fade further and further away.

I mean, between my wife, my kids, and my job, there was little time left over to work on my car. Not only that, I just didn’t have the extra money I needed to supe up the car in the way I had always dreamed.

One day, I was floating around on the Internet looking for some information for a repair I needed to make on the "family" vehicle and I stumbled upon a used car donation site that was asking people to make a goodwill charity car donation with their unwanted used vehicles.

Now the thought of giving up my baby "bird" was nearly unbearable. But, at the same time, I felt guilty for ignoring her and it did bring a smile to my face to think that someone else out there might actually bring the life back into my “project car” and actually get some good use (and joy) out of her.

Of course, I also liked the idea of using the car donation program to help out one of my favorite charities with my goodwill car donation.

So, before making my charity car donation I started looking up some of the causes I was most interested in supporting and I narrowed it down to just a couple.

Imagine that – something that had been sitting in my backyard, taking up space, and, quite frankly, going to waste, could be salvaged and actually help a worthwhile charity that I believed in.

Actually, making my Firebird a charity car donation didn’t seem so sweet when it came down to parting with her. After all, the car-a-holic in me still had lingering hopes that I might one day get to work on her like I had always dreamed of.

But, I’m also a realist. I know that the day that might happen certainly wasn’t realistically anywhere remotely possible in my near future. And, it pleased my wife to no end to find out that we could use this goodwill car donation as a tax write off. It never even bothered her that I didn’t just try to just sell it. But hey, I was able to avoid that hassle now, wasn’t I?

I thought the car donation program might be a little tricky but I found the process of donating a car to charity quite easy. The charity I chose didn’t even have to do anything. I made my car donation through a charity car donation program that took care of everything for me.

Occasionally, I will look out my back window and feel the pangs of the car-a-holic I once was. But I know that as long as she sat out there, it was a real waste. I wasn’t doing her any justice. Now someone else can enjoy her.

Making a goodwill used car donation was perhaps the best thing I could have done with that old Firebird. I’m thankful that the car donation program made it all so simple and easy.
